In 1995 the hurling, camogie and athletic clubs of Ballyskenagh came together
with a view to purchasing and developing St. Bernard’s Park, which up to then
had been owned by the Cistercian monks at Mount St. Joseph’s. The fund-raising
was kicked off by a “Lord Mayor Campaign” with four candidates and their teams
working extremely hard to raise funds. A grand total of £28,000 was raised by
the candidates – Mary Middleton, Paddy McLoughlin, Pauline O’Toole and Tom Douglas,
who was “crowned” Lord Mayor at the end of the campaign. Tom is pictured below
being presented with his trophy by Eugene Hannon, chairman of the development
committee. (Report on Lord Mayor Function)
These funds, together with National Lottery finance was put to good use with the building of the club house, comprised of two dressing rooms, meeting room, kitchen, referee's room and toilets.
In February 2008, the club applied for further lottery funding to carry out additional development work, including improved lighting, ball stoppers, mini-gym, etc.
The club very much appreciate all the support they have received during their various fund raising drives.
