Ballyskenagh 1-15 ...... Ballinamere 1-15
Ballyskenagh and Ballinamere served up a thriller in the Intermediate Semi Final in Banagher on Saturday 13th September.
Skenagh got off to a blistering start and were four points to the good with a little over two minutes gone on the clock, coming from Morgan Lalor, Timmy Hennessy, Ronan Middleton and Lalor again. Ballinamere opened their account with a pointed free in the fifth minute and added another from play less than a minute later. Shane Carroll made it 0-5 to 0-2 before a Morgan Lalor free stretched the margin to four, with ten minutes gone. However Skenagh then entered a barren spell, which saw Ballinamere score seven points without reply. John Dooley pointed just on the close of half time and Ballinamere raised another flag in injury time to put the half time score at 10 points to 7.
Ballinamere started the second half well and had stretched the lead to five points at 12 to 7 but a brace of points from Morgan Lalor, in the 5th and 7th minutes brought the gap back down to three. Ballinamere pointed a free but Timmy Hennessy replied at the other end before Ciaran Kirwan got the all important equalising goal with 11 minutes played. A John Dooley free saw Skenagh get their noses in front but Ballinamere soon equalised and then raised the green flag to restore a three point lead at 1-14 to 1-11 approaching the half way point. The next three scores came from 65's - two to Skenagh (Aidan Franks) and one to Ballinamere. Ciaran Kirwan again got the equalising score to put the sides all square at 1-14 each with about eight minutes remaining. Morgan Lalor then gave Skenagh the edge again and the stage was set for a battle for the remaining minutes! Ballinamere were awarded a free in the last minute and duly raised the white flag to tie the sides once again. Ballyskenagh had one last chance to take the spoils, but John Dooley's shot was just wide and so they will have to do it all again!
