2008 Intermediate Championship Round 2

Ballyskenagh 1-11 ...... Carrig & Riverstown 0-11

Ballyskenagh's second group game proved to be a ding dong battle and the result was in the balance all the way to the final whistle in Coolderry on Saturday 26th July. Carrig & Riverstown drew first blood with a 5th minute point. Morgan Lalor opened Skenagh's scores in the 7th minute with a free and a second free a few minutes later put Skenagh's noses in front. Ronan Middleton and Aidan Franks (free) stretched the margin to three but Carrig brought it back to two in the 17th minute. Ciaran Kirwan scored Skenagh's fifth point but Carrig quickly replied before a third Morgan Lalor free put the score at 0-6 to 0-3 with ten minutes to go the break. This was to be Skenagh's last score of the half, while Carrig scored two frees to put the half time score at 0-6 to 0-5 in Skenagh's favour.

Ciaran Kirwan and Morgan Lalor (free) widened the margin to three but Carrig scored three without reply (one free) to put the sides all square with 12 minutes gone on the clock. An Alan Franks point from a free gave Skenagh the edge again but Carrig reversed this with a brace of points (one free) to take the lead with ten minutes left in the game. Morgan Lalor restored parity and Derek Middleton edged Skenagh in front again with five minutes remaining. Carrig quickly replied to put the sides all square yet again with less than five minutes to go. A tense battle ensued, with both sides having chances to take the game but it fell to Ronan Middleton to score the decider in injury time when a great move involving several players saw him blast the ball to the back of the net and so end Carrig and Riverstown's championship hopes for 2008 on a final scoreline of 1-11 to 0-11.
