Ballyskenagh 0-18 ...... Crinkle 0-11
Ballyskenagh’s last game in the Intermediate Championship in 1995 ended with a seven point victory and this winning margin was repeated in their first game of the 2008 Intermediate Championship when they beat Crinkle in Clareen on Friday 25th April.
Playing with the aid of a strong breeze, Crinkle opened the scoring with a pointed free inside the first minute and an Aidan Franks ’65 levelled things up before Crinkle again edged in front with a point in the sixth minute. Morgan Lalor pointed two frees either side of two Crinkle points (one from a free) before a John Dooley point put the sides all square again in the eighteenth minute. A third free from Lalor gave Skenagh the edge before Alan Franks stepped up to take a penalty after Dooley was fouled. Franks’ shot was deflected over the bar to put the score at 0-6 to 0-4 in Skenagh’s favour. Timmy Hennessy and John Dooley pointed from play and the last score of the half came from Crinkle with a ’65 right on half time to put the score at 0-8 to 0-5 in Skenagh’s favour.
A busy start to the second half saw Timmy Hennessy stretch Skenagh’s lead to four and Aidan Franks make it five, before two points from Crinkle (one free) had the margin back at three with just five minutes gone in the half. Two frees from Lalor were followed by a further two points from Crinkle (one free) to put the score at 0-12 to 0-9 at the half way point. A brace of points from John Dooley was followed by a Crinkle point, but two more from Timmy Hennessy kept Skenagh in the driving seat with a six point lead. Crinkle piled on the pressure but their twenty-fourth minute point was to be their last score of the game, while Skenagh added two more, courtesy of Shane Carroll and Morgan Lalor to leave the final score 0-18 to 0-11.
