Kilcormac/Killoughey 4-20 ...... Ballyskenagh 3-3
Despite a good opening half hour, Ballyskenagh's senior championship campaign got off to a bad start in Banagher on Sunday 6th May, as a very poor second half performance saw them go down badly to Kilcormac/Killoughey.
K/K opened the scores with a free inside the first minute and soon added another to go two points up. Ballyskenagh had three wides before KK pointed again from another free. Skenagh had two further wides before a John Dooley goal in the 9th minute put the sides level at 1-0 to 0-3. Just over a minute later, Dooley again found himself with only the goalie to beat and duly sent the ball to the back of the net to give Skenagh a three point lead.
Two points from KK (one from a free) reduced the margin to a single point, but Brendan Murphy pointed to regain a two point lead with 12 minutes to go in the half. In the 22nd minute a K/K goal gave them the edge, but not for long as a scramble in the KK goalmouth saw Dooley flick the ball to Timmy Hennessy who passed it out to Tadhg Maher who sent the ball to the back of the net to put Skenagh two in front again at 3-1 to 1-5 with six minutes left on the clock. Two points from KK saw the sides draw level again, but points from Brendan Murphy and John Dooley (free) gave Skenagh a 3-3 to 1-7 edge going in at the break.
Two minutes after the restart KK pointed and just three minutes later they rattled the back of the net to take a two point lead, quickly followed by another point. Everything seemed to go wrong for Skenagh, including some harsh refereeing decisions, and by the 13th minute the deficit was five points. When K/K scored their third goal in the 13th minute, the game was starting to slip away. Ballyskenagh disappointingly seemed to throw in the towel in too many areas and failed to register a score for the remainder of the game, while KK could do no wrong and went on to add a further 1-9 to their total to run out winners with an impressive 4-20 to Skenagh's 3-3.
