Ballyskenagh made it through to the second round of the O'Connor Cup by virtue of a 2-17 to 3-12 win over Shinrone on Sunday 23rd April in Ballyskenagh.

Shinrone opened the scores and with eight minutes gone on the clock were five points up at 1-4 to 0-2. However Skenagh outscored Shinrone by 9 points to 3 for the remainder of the half to go into the break leading by 0-11 to 1-7.

Soon after the restart a Timmy Hennessy point stretched the lead to two, but Shinrone quickly brought it back again to the minimum. Then two goals in quick succession from Timmy Hennessy and John Dooley put Skenagh seven points clear with less than five minutes gone in the half. Shinrone brought it back to 5 but a brace of points from Noel Murphy regained the seven point lead for Skenagh mid way through the half. Skenagh added three further unanswered points courtesy of Tom O'Toole and John Dooley (x2, 1 free) to take a commanding ten point lead at 2-17 to 1-10 with just six minutes remaining. A Shinrone goal and two points inside the next two minutes reduced the margin to five.
