Seir Kieran 3-6 ...... Ballyskenagh 3-4
Ballyskenagh came close to earning their first points in the Junior Football Championship on Tuesday 15th May when they lost out by two points to Seir Kieran after a keenly fought and entertaining game in Ballyskenagh.
Shane Carroll opened the scores in the second minute before Seir Kieran took the lead with three unanswered points. With just over ten minutes remaining in the half, Emmet Middleton pointed and soon afterwards a Derek Middleton goal gave Skenagh a 1-2 to 0-3 lead. Five minutes later Paddy Higgins raised the green flag again and Shane Carroll scored his second point before half time to put the score at 2-3 to 0-3 in favour of Skenagh.
The first score of the second half came with a Clareen goal in the second minute, bringing the gap back to three. Then an Alan Franks free was broken by Emmet Middleton to Padraic Kennedy who put the ball past the Seir Kieran keeper to widen the gap back to six with just five minutes gone in the half. Both sides missed chances before Seir Kieran got through for a goal mid-way through the half. Soon aferwards a Seir Kieran free was duly converted and then they pointed again to bring the gap down to a single point. A Shane Carroll free put the margin back to two, but with less than five minutes to go Seir Kieran made the breakthrough for a goal and took the lead. Two minutes later they added another point from play. Skenagh tried hard and had opportunities but could not register the all important scores and the game ended 3-6 to 3-4 in Seir Kieran's favour.
To stay in the championship Skenagh must now beat Crinkle and hope other results go their way to force a play off.
