2007 Div 4 Hurling League Round 2

Ballinamere 5-16 ...... Ballyskenagh 3-9

Ballyskenagh travelled to Ballinamere on Sunday 27th May to take on the home side in the Division 4 hurling league. A very even first half saw the sides level on five occasions but in the second half things didn't go Skenagh's way and Ballinamere ran out easy winners in the end.

Ballinamere opened the scores inside the first half minute and were 1-2 to no score ahead when Emmet Middleton pointed in the fifth minute. A John Dooley free reduced the margin to three and a goal from Ollie Ryan in the 12th minute put the sides all square. A minute later Skenagh took the lead with a free from Dooley but three unanswered points from Ballinamere (one free) gave them a two point advantage with twelve minutes to go to the half time whistle. Two frees from Dooley in quick succession put the sides at level pegging again before Ballinamere again got their noses in front with a point in the 19th minute. An Anthony Middleton point seconds later was to be the last score of the half and the sides went in at half time level at 1-6 each.

Skenagh took a two point lead early in the second half with points from John Dooley (free) and Emmet Middleton, but a Ballinamere goal in the fifth minute gave them back the advantage. Ballinamere then scored three points without reply to widen the margin to four but a John Dooley goal brought it back to the minimum. However this was to be the closest Skenagh came in the second half as Ballinamere scored a goal in the 15th minute and followed up with another just four minutes later to take a 4-9 to 2-8 lead. A pointed free (Dooley) reduced the margin to six before Ballinamere raised the white flag again to restore their seven point lead with ten minutes remaining. A well taken goal from Ronan Middleton in the 24th minute gave Skenagh some hope, but it was to be their last score of the game, while Ballinamere went on to add the grand total of 1-6 to their tally to leave the final score at 5-16 to 3-9.
