Tullamore 1-15 ...... Ballyskenagh 1-7
With both teams already in the relegation play offs, Ballyskenagh and Tullamore met for the second time to decide 4th and 5th places in the group. Played in Kilcormac, Skenagh were unlucky not to open the scores with a goal, when David McLoughlin's shot was put out for a '65 in the second minute of the game. The resultant '65 was pointed by John Dooley, but Tullamore then went on a scoring spree from the 3rd to the 8th minute and powered ahead by 1-4 to 0-1, with all but one point coming from play. Both sides failed to register further scores before Noel Murphy raised the white flag in the 20th minute. A Tullamore free soon had the gap back at six. A good move up the field from Skenagh saw Timmy Hennessy goalward bound, but his shot was blocked. John Dooley got his stick to the rebound and it was quickly picked up by Cathal Hannon who made no mistake in putting the ball past the goalie to bring the gap back to three with four minutes of ordinary time left in the half. Just into injury time Tullamore and David Carney exchanged points and in the 33rd minute Tullamore added another. Cathal Murphy then scored a long range point just before the half time whistle to put the scores at 1-7 to 1-4 in favour of Tullamore.
On the resumption, Tullamore scored three unanswered points before Skenagh added to their half time tally with a John Dooley free in the 7th minute. Tullamore added five further points from the 14th to the 27th minute (three from frees) before Skenagh scored again with another John Dooley free. With Tom O'Toole having taken over goalkeeping duties early in the second half, Alan Franks scored what was to be the last score of the game in the 29th minute, to leave the final score at 1-15 to 1-7.
Soon after the final whistle, word came through that the draw was made for the relegation play offs and the two sides must meet for the third time this year, with the winners safe from relegation and the losers having to play either Clara or Shamrocks.
