2006 Div 2 (Senior) League Round 9

Shinrone 1-07 ........ Ballyskenagh 1-09

With one game remaining, Ballyskenagh assured themselves of a place in the Division 2 League final with a two point win over neighbours Shinrone on Sunday 18th June.

The game was originally fixed for Ballyskenagh, but pitch conditions meant Skenagh had to concede home advantage and play the game in Shinrone.

Skenagh were down two points before Derek Middleton opened their scoring with a 65 in the 12th minute. Shinrone quickly replied with a goal and soon followed with a pointed free to widen the gap to 1-3 to 0-1. Playing against the wind, Tadgh Maher pointed in the 17th minute before a Shinrone free put the margin back to five at 1-4 to 0-2. The final score of the half came from a David Carney free just before the break, to put the half time score at 1-4 to 0-3.

Shinrone started the second half strongly and added a further two points by the 9th minute. However, Ballyskenagh scored the next three points - two from David Carney and one from Noel Murphy, to put the gap back at three mid way through the half. Just two minutes later David Carney made good use of a good low ball in and put the ball past the Shinrone goalie to level matters. Carney then pointed a free to take the lead at 1-7 to 1-6. There were twelve minutes remaining on the clock when Shinrone drew level with what was to be their last score. Another Carney free gave Skenagh the minimum lead with three minutes to go and he again pointed a free in injury time to leave the final score at 1-9 to 1-7 in Skenagh's favour.

A win or draw with Lusmagh next weekend would see Skenagh finish the campaign in pole position, while a victory for Lusmagh would see Skenagh finish second and set up a Skenagh/Lusmagh Division 2 final.
