Ballyskenagh 1-13 ...... Belmont 3-11
A somewhat lack-lustre performance in warm heavy weather saw Ballyskenagh's unbeaten run in the Division 2 league come to an abrupt end with a four point defeat by Belmont in Ballyskenagh on Thursday 8th June.
Belmont opened the scoring in the 4th minute but Eoghan Franks soon levelled matters. Belmont edged in front again, with John Dooley equalising in the 10th minute and Eoghan Franks giving Skenagh the advantage in the 11th minute. The sides were level at 0-3 each when the Bemont goalie fumbled a Derek Middleton sideline and it crossed the line to give Skenagh a three point lead. Three Eoghan Franks points (one free, one sideline) widened the gap to six points by the 20th minute. Skenagh added two more before half time while Belmont raised the white flag three times, to put the half time score at 1-8 to 0-6 in favour of Ballyskenagh.
Another great sideline point from Eoghan Franks put Skenagh six in front in the 4th minute of the second half, but a Belmont goal quickly brought them right back into contention. Two Eoghan Franks points (one from a free) again widened the gap, but a second Belmont goal in the 13th minute ensured a battle to the end. Belmont drew level in the 17th minute but Eoghan Franks again (from a free) gave Skenagh the edge. In the 20th minute Belmont again equalised and went on to take the lead with their third goal in the 24th minute. Skenagh battled hard for the remainder, but Belmont had the upper hand and added two further points to Skenagh's one (Eoghan Franks) to leave the final score at 3-11 to 1-13 in Belmont's favour.
