Ballyskenagh 4-11 ...... Lusmagh 2-10
Ballyskenagh captured the Division 2 League Title in Moystown on Saturday July 16th and brought home a senior trophy for the second time in the club's history, the first being the O'Connor Cup in 2001.
Lusmagh were first to score and were three points ahead before Brendan Murphy raised the white flag in the 10th minute. A Lusmagh goal in the 13th minute put Skenagh in arrears by 1-4 to 0-1 and Skenagh appeared to be struggling to get to grips with the game. Derek Middleton added a point for Skenagh before Lusmagh drilled another one home in the 18th minute to give them a 2-4 to 0-2 advantage. David Carney pointed, but Lusmagh quickly replied with what was to be their last score of the half in the 19th minute. A Mick O'Hara '65 and another Brendan Murphy point put the half time score at 2-5 to 0-5 in Lusmagh's favour.
With it all to do in the second half, Morgan Lalor pointed first to bring the gap down to five but a Lusmagh free, followed by a '65 had Skenagh trailing by 7 points in the 6th minute. Points from Morgan Lalor and David Carney brought it back to five, but Lusmagh had it back to 7 by the 14th minute. Skenagh refused to buckle and a Morgan Lalor goal in the 16th minute brought the deficit down to a more manageable four points, and when Ciaran Kirwan raised the green flag in the 22nd minute, the gap was back to the minimum. The sides exchanged points, Ballyskenagh's coming from David Carney, before a Padraig Kennedy goal in the 27th minute gave Skenagh the lead for the first time in the game. David Carney rattled the net in the 29th minute and Skenagh looked to be heading for victory. Lusmagh failed to score again while Brendan Murphy and Mick O'Hara (free) raised white flags for Skenagh to leave the final score at 4-11 to 2-10.
After the game, the Shane Ryan Memorial Cup was presented by Shane's father to Cathal Murphy, Ballyskenagh captain, who played alongside Shane in their county minor days. Shane had many an encounter with Ballyskenagh, going all the way back to his juvenile days and the club were very happy to receive the trophy in his memory.
