2006 all-Ireland Sevens

Sevens Panel

Ballyskenagh took part in the All Ireland Sevens in Kilmacud on Saturday 2nd of September. A bad start saw them lose the first game to St. John's of Antrim on a scoreline of 6-6 to 6-2, having been a point up at half time at 4-1 to 3-3.

Ballindereen of Galway were the opposition for the second game and with Ballinderren and Thurles Sarsfields having drawn their first game, it was all to play for. After a tough opening ten minutes, half time again saw Skenagh ahead by a point at 2-2 to 1-4. Some questionable score-keeping and controversial scores and wides saw Skenagh lose out on an official scoreline of 2-11 to 3-6, though this was a debatable tally, (the ref initially indicated that Skenagh had scored a single goal and not three!)

As Sarsfields had beaten St. John's, the final game of the group was immaterial to Skenagh who were well beaten by the Thurles side, who included Lar Corbett and Redser O'Grady, and they went on to contest the quarter final as group winners.
