Ballyskenagh's Division 1 league campaign began with a loss to Belmont in Ballyskenagh on Sunday 13th March. In their first outing at senior level, last year's intermediate champions gave a sound performance and led at the interval by five points, 0-11 to 1-3. Skenagh brought the gap back to just a point in the second half, but failed to get the better of Belmont, who emerged worthy winners on a final scoreline of 0-16 to 1-9.

Before the game, a minute's silence was observed for Shane Ryan, who had many an encounter with Ballyskenagh, going all the way back to his juvenile days. Not least among these encounters was the minor final of 1991 - a year in which he wore the county colours in both codes, as he did also at U-21 level. May he rest in peace.

Ballyskenagh suffered their second defeat in the league at the hands of neighbours Killavilla in Killavilla on Sun. 20th March. At half time the deficit was two points, 1-5 to 0-6. An equally poor second half performance didn't see any improvement and the final score was 3-7 to 0-10.

Ballyskenagh's second win of the league came at the expense of Tullamore in a close and exciting contest in Ballyskenagh on the 9th of July. Tullamore were ahead at the interval by 0-9 to 0-7 but hard fought second half saw Skenagh scrape a win by 2-19 to 2-18.
