Scór na nÓg
After a long absence from the competition, Ballyskenagh made their return to the Scór na nÓg in 2005. The quiz team of David McAuliffe, Christine McAuliffe and Emmet Middleton represented the Club in Clara on Thursday night 17th November. Against some very stiff competition the team competed very well and with a little bit of luck could have qualified for the final.
On Sunday afternoon, we had the rest of the Scór competition in Rath hall. Our first competitor on stage was Cian Hanamy, who entertained all with his excellent singing and there's no doubt that Cian can follow in the footsteps of Tadhg Maher and be a future winner of this competition.
Next up were our traditional Music Group comprised of Lisa Ryan, Joseph Kelly, David McAuliffe, Kathryn Browne and Diarmuid Ryan. This group have worked hard under the guidance of Catherine Middleton and were duly rewarded with a place in the County Final. Kathryn Browne then sped off to Tullamore to collect her All-Ireland Minor camogie medal - a fantastic achievement, well done Kathryn.
Carmel Bergin was our representative in the Recitation category and by all accounts did an excellent version of "The Audition" and was unfortunate not to qualify for the next stage of the competition.
Clodagh Lalor, Cian and Conal Hanamy, Nicole Donovan and Ciara Fitzgerald were our final competitors, taking part in the Ballad Group section. Under the guidance of Sinead Middleton, this group have been practising hard over the last few weeks and there was great excitement when the winners were announced and this group had also made it through to the final.
The County Final took place in Ballycumber on Saturday 26th November and our finalists performed very well, but were up against stiff opposition and did not capture any county titles.
Thanks to all our young competitors and their parents and also to Sinead, Catherine, Maura and Gerry for their work in helping the competitors prepare. Well done to all concerned.
