2002- Senior Hurling Championship

Senior Hurling Championship Play Off

Ballyskenagh 0-10 ....... Kilcormac/Killoughey 0-12

Ballyskenagh senior hurlers played Kilcormac/Killoughey on Sunday 19th August in Rath to decide the final group placings, as both teams had finished the group on four points each. This was a low-scoring, keenly fought contest that could have gone either way and the sides were level six times during the game.

Midway through the first half, ‘Skenagh had their noses in front at 0-3 to 0-2 and went in at half time leading 0-5 to 0-4.

K/K equalised four minutes after the resumption and Ballyskenagh then enjoyed a brief period of dominance when they put over three points to widen the gap to 0-8 to 0-5 and it was beginning to look like a win might be on the cards. However, it was then K/K’s turn to score three unanswered points and the sides were level again mid-way through the half. The sides drew level again at 0-9 each and K/K took the lead for the first time in the match with six minutes remaining. K/K added two further points, with Eoghan Franks pointing for ‘Skenagh in between the K/K scores, to leave the final score at 0-12 to 0-11.

Ballyskenagh now play St. Rynaghs in the quarter final next Sunday evening in Rath. This will be a tough task, and while recent form has been a little disappointing, they are still well capable of troubling the side that defeated them in the 1999 semi-final.
